In an unforeseen twist at The Genesis Invitational on February 16, Tiger Woods, aged 48, was suddenly carted off the golf course. He withdrew from the tournament as a result of an illness.

The pro golfer was navigating the second round of the event when his withdrawal was prompted, as confirmed by PGA Tour Communications. The professional golf tour organizing company posted a brief statement on social media.

Their message read, “Tiger Woods is a WD during the second round of The Genesis Invitational.” Woods’ day on the course took a concerning turn when—after being 1-over through six holes and executing his tee shot at the par-4 seventh hole—he had to stop.

At approximately 1:35 p.m., he was escorted back to the locker room by a rules official, and emergency personnel were seen arriving at the Riviera Country Club shortly thereafter. The health scare prompted a flurry of speculation and concern among onlookers.

Addressing these concerns, Rob McNamara, Executive Vice President of TGR Ventures, shed light on Woods’ condition on the same day. McNamara revealed that Woods had been battling flu-like symptoms since the night before, which had intensified by the morning of the event.
