Couple Charged For Performing Botched At-Home Medical Procedure On Child

Cops charged a couple from Missouri due to them performing an unauthorized medical procedure at home on their child, specifically circumcision. The untrained father used a “utility tool,” and their botched surgery “did not go as planned.”

Tyler Wade Gibson, age 35, allegedly was the one to perform the operation on the night of November 27. The father doesn’t have any medical qualifications, but he claimed to have done research before the circumcision.

A Botched Procedure Gone Wrong

According to court documents, Tyler recited a blessing and sharpened the blade before the surgerybegan. He also told police that he “placed pads to catch the blood and sterilized the blade.”

Little did he know that there would be a lot more blood than the couple could handle. The court documents explained how Gibson was unprepared and stunned at how much his child was bleeding during the home procedure.

The mother, Bailey Alexus Gibson, age 32, admitted to aiding her husband with the operation. This is according to KMIZ-TV. She also admitted that she was “very hesitant” about her husband performing the circumcision. Nonetheless, she helped him.

The couple eventually rushed their child to a local hospital, Lake Regional Hospital, once the bleeding got too excessive. The child was transferred to University Hospital soon after.

According to the documents, the couple decided to leave the hospital only after four hours since they got “tired of waiting.” This went “against medical advice” of the hospital which grew worried about the dire situation.

A staff member of University Hospital eventually reported the incident through an emergency hotline. This reached Social Services, who then got in touch with the cops to let them know about the child with the botched circumcision.

The authorities charged Tyler with two felonies both worth seven years in prison: child abuse and practicing medicine with a license. Meanwhile, they charged Bailey with child abuse.

Tyler attended court on Tuesday, December 3. Bailey will appear later in court on January 28 to continue the sentencing.

Since this incident, Social Services removed five children from the couple’s home. Police also couldn’t find the blade in the house that Tyler allegedly said he left in their bedroom.
